TURN KNOWLEDGE INTO WORK

Six projects. Real progress.

Build a small portfolio as you work through the course. Use your own footage or our original practice kit. These are briefs to complete in Resolve, with self-review criteria.

PROJECT 01 · BEGINNER

A small story, well told

Create a 30–45 second film showing a simple action from beginning to end. Film a cup of tea, a short walk, or a familiar routine. Use at least six original shots. The supplied motion study clips can be used for a technical editing rehearsal, but film real coverage for the storytelling assessment.

Your deliverables

  • A clearly named project and organized media bins.
  • A finished 1080p review movie with a title and intentional sound.
  • A short note explaining three editing decisions.

PROJECT 02 · INTERMEDIATE

The interview, made human

Record 60–90 seconds of someone explaining a hobby, or record yourself. Edit it to 30 seconds without changing the speaker’s meaning. Cover at least one picture edit with relevant B-roll and use a J-cut or L-cut.

Your deliverables

  • An organized interview timeline with labeled dialogue and B-roll.
  • An accurate subtitle file and a captioned review movie.
  • A dialogue-only stem aligned to the full mix.

PROJECT 03 · INTERMEDIATE

One scene, one visual language

Grade five shots from the same scene. Start with a documented color pipeline, balance each shot, and then create a shared look. Use at least one tracked secondary correction and keep before/after evidence.

Your deliverables

  • A pipeline note stating input, working, and output assumptions.
  • A graded scene plus an ungraded or baseline comparison.
  • A labeled node structure and three review stills.

PROJECT 04 · ADVANCED

A graphic that belongs in the shot

Create an original title sequence or a screen replacement in Fusion. Use a deliberate node structure, a controlled animation, and clean compositing. For a replacement, shoot a flat sign or monitor with visible tracking detail.

Your deliverables

  • A five-to-ten-second finished composite.
  • A reusable graphic or a documented tracking setup.
  • A still showing the node flow and a short integration review.

PROJECT 05 · INTERMEDIATE

A photographic mini-series

Choose six original photographs and finish a three-image series in the Photo page. Use a consistent look, individual corrections, and intentional crops. The supplied stills support technical practice; use your own photographs for the final series.

Your deliverables

  • Three screen-ready image exports.
  • A simple contact sheet or organized set for review.
  • Export notes with dimensions, format, and color assumptions.

The complete finishing challenge

Finish a 60–90 second film using your own footage. Include a structured edit, an original Fusion graphic, a coherent grade, a dialogue/music/effects mix, accurate captions, and two aspect ratios. Treat this as a client delivery.

Your deliverables

  • 16:9 and 9:16 review masters with an explicit technical specification.
  • Aligned dialogue, music, and effects stems, plus subtitles.
  • A restorable project archive and dependency manifest.
  • A QC report, revision log, and a brief self-review.
